Paul McCartney Debuts Two New Songs

Yup, a new Paul McCartney is indeed imminent. Yesterday, McCartney announced that a new album will be released this fall. The album, entitled Egypt Station, was teased this past weekend on McCartney’s social media accounts. Now we know the details: the 14 song album will be released September 7, 2018. Moreover, McCartney just released the first two singles from Egypt Station: I Don’t Know and the upbeat Come On To Me.

New Paul McCartney Album Imminent (2018)

Update: McCartney’s new album, entitled Egypt Station, will be released September 7th.

We know that Sir Paul McCartney has a new album in the works. Back in December McCartney was asked what he had in store for 2018, and he replied, “I’ll probably be putting out a new album . . . We’re putting the finishing touches to it now and at the beginning of next year.” So a 2018 McCartney album is certain, the question is when.

Well, the answer is very soon! On June 9th Paul was spotted in Liverpool taking selfies with James Corden. It seems likely that McCartney filmed an interview and/or an episode of carpool karaoke with Corden. Later that day McCartney held a secret performance where he played a new song! I’ve included the video below. Update: Setlist included below.

In addition, McCartney has revamped his social media profiles. His profile pictures have been changed to the mysterious image embedded at the top of this post. Moreover, the same image has replaced all images posted to McCartney’s Instagram profile.

Taken together, it is clear that McCartney’s 2018 album is just around the corner. I cannot wait for more details, which I expect to trickle out this week. Things are looking good for new music and a 2018 fall tour!

Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour Review

Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour is fantastic. The music, the visuals, the experience. It’s hard to break down into words, but suffice it to say you need to get a ticket and check it out for yourself. It is 100% worth it. In fact, I want to go again.

Supporting Swift during this tour are Charli XCX and Camila Cabello. On many tours I actively choose to skip the openers and show up just in time for the main attraction. Don’t do that for the Reputation Stadium Tour: Charli XCX and Camila Cabello are fun. Bonus: Charli XCX and Camila Cabello join Swift to perform Shake it Off.

On first to perform is Charli XCX. She plays the hits, starting with Boom Clap to Five in the Morning and Fancy. I, unfortunately, missed Charli XCX due to traffic, but I enjoy her songs and wish I had gotten in earlier.

Next, Cabello enters the frame to grace the audience with great music and dance moves. I’m not sure there is an up and coming artist hotter than Camilla Cabello right now. Her megahit Havana is the most streamed song ever from a solo female artist on Spotify. Her album is loaded with hits (my favorite is She Loves Control) and her energy on stage is electric. I would recommend seeing Cabello at her own show, so the fact that she is opening for Swift is a perfect bonus.

I covered the setlist earlier this year and for the most part it has stayed the same. To recap, Swift rolls through 24 songs: 14 songs from Reputation and the remaining 10 from her extensive catalog of older music. My personal favorites from the show include the mashup of StyleLove Story, and You Belong with MeBad Blood, and New Year’s Day. As a bonus, in the middle of her set, Swift frequently brings out a special guest to perform. Thus far, guests have included Shawn Mendes, Troye Sivan, and Selena Gomez. Even without a guest, the show is stacked with both hits and deeper cuts that all will enjoy.

Overall, the mix of new and old songs work perfectly. Swift is able to easily pull off both loud stadium-ringing bangers and acoustic softer songs. It’s a testament to her immense talent and hard work.

Production Value

The production quality on the Reputation Stadium Tour is incredibly high. The large video screens look fantastic. Moreover, they open for Swift to enter through and during the show chunks of the screen are moved to reveal the band. I was very impressed.

About midway through the show Swift flew through the air to a secondary stage. It was a sight to behold first and foremost, but it also allowed more fans to have an up-close look. It was a great touch. Not over the top for the sake of it, just cool.

Like previous Swift tour’s fans are given wirelessly controlled bracelets when they enter the venue. The bracelet’s light up in synchronization with the performance to produce an incredibly rich experience in the stands. Again, such a nice touch that doesn’t go over the top.

Swift opens the show by asking the crowd, “are you ready for it?” Everyone was, and no one left disappointed. It’s safe to say that the Reputation Stadium Tour is a must-see show this summer. Swift is an excellent performer and puts on a great show. Throw in the fantastic opening acts and the incredibly high production value, the Reputation Stadium Tour is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time.
