Brandon Flowers on New Killers Album (2018)

I’m a big fan of The Killers. Some of my best memories involve making new friends while rocking out along with The Killers. Basically, they are one of those bands/artists I will see everytime they are in town. Brandon Flowers did an interesting interview today wherein he noted, “the plan is…another Killers record” and I could not be happier. Obviously this is no confirmation of a 2019 album, but we can hope!

Dave Grohl Interviewed by British GQ

This interview with Dave Grohl is great. It stretches from his favorite guitarist (Jimmy Page) and his favorite album (Paris, Texas by Ry Cooder) to a song he never finished (David Bowie turned him down) and drummer jokes. Other highlights include Grohl’s memories of Nirvana and meeting Geroge W. Bush in the white house. The interview covers a wide range of topics. You won’t regret watching it.

The accompanying article is great as well. Did you know that Grohl’s pre-show warm-up includes (several) shots ofJägermeister? Grolh calls it “RockQuil.”  It’s a great piece for any Foo Fighters or Nirvana fan. Really, it’s a great article for any rock fan.

Smashing Pumpkins on Kurt Cobain and Hard Work

Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) was on It’s Electric! discussing hard work. He says that Courtney Love called him after Smashing Pumpkins released their first album and busted his balls about how good it sounded. Billy says he needed to put in all the hard work to escape from his world. He also had some interesting things to say about Kurt Cobain’s work ethic. Specifically, “Kurt Cobain as a lyricist, as a songwriter, as a visionary, was a fucken assassin.”

Conan O’brien Interviews Paul McCartney (1997)

Conan O’Brien interviewed Paul McCartney in 1997 about the release of the album Flaming Pie. The short interview is very funny and includes several jabs between the two. At one point McCartney sarcastically threatens Conan by saying “nobody may be seeing you again. This may be the end of your series and career.” McCartney went on to create a short song about Conan, ending with the lyrics “He’s a terrific person, but he’s never coming back.” The entire interview was all in good fun and the two men seemed to get along very well. I definitely recommend hitting the play button above and enjoying the entire clip.

Cage The Elephant Performing “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked”

Thursday August 3, 2017, the first day of Lollapalooza 2017. The day was set for perfection during the sunny afternoon. Headliners Muse and Lorde were on deck to rock the evening away while Liam Gallagher, Spoon, and Cage The Elephant (“Cage”) were set to deliver great daytime sets. However, the ran came early and prematurely ended the headliner performance after only a few songs. Luckily, Cage had already put on the set of the day and one of the best performance of the festival.

Cage’s setlist spanned all albums and included fan favorites such as Cigarette Daydreams and Back Against The Wall. I’ve included a video (above) of Cage’s performance of Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked from Lollapalooza 2017. What a great time, I can’t wait for festival season 2018!

Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino (Updated)

Arctic Monkeys’ (“AM”) new album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino is finally out for everyone’s enjoyment (stream abovebelow). The album sees AM trade music festival blaring tracks for songs that are perfect for vibing to. I’m still making it through the album for the first time so I’ll reserve any further analysis for another time. Instead, why not check out Alex Turner (lead singer/songwriter of AM) break down his thoughts on each track? I’ve also included the setlist for a recent AM show in New York. Although AM sometimes changes the order of the tracks from show to show, these songs appear to be played at each event. But where is Fluorescent Adolescent?!

Update: I’ve added the official music video for Four Out Of Five to the beginning of this post.

John Mayer Releases “New Light”

Today John Mayer released a new song entitled New Light. With a steady beat and lyrics describing John’s attempt to escape the friend zone, the song is catchy and enjoyable. Give it a listen above.

Taylor Swift Reputation Tour Setlist

Taylor Swift’s first show of the Reputation Stadium Tour was last night at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The Setlist, powered by Setlist.FM, is attached below. I expect this setlist to remain mostly unchanged throughout the tour. Overall, I’m a big fan. Swift includes songs from all eras, from Should’ve Said No to Love Story and Bad Blood to New Year’s Day. I’m even more excited about the tour knowing that the setlist is strong!

Lollapalooza 2018 Schedule

Headlined by The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Jack White, and Arctic Monkeys, Lollapalooza 2018 is set up for another solid year. Today, the Lolla schedule was released exclusively on the official Lolla mobile app. Unfortunately, the app isn’t very good making it difficult to determine the acts that overlap. Fear not, check out this clashfinder for an easy to read version of the schedule! Update 9/9/2018: the Lolla website now correctly displays the schedule.

To me, the biggest conflicts are Bruno Mars vs The National vs Jungle and St. Vincent vs Logic. Overall not bad. Can’t wait.

Setlist.FM

There is nothing better at a concert than being able to sing along to the show. It’s a great treat when you see your favorite artist or band and can (poorly?) join in on every song. But what can you do when you are seeing someone you don’t know as well? This issue arises a lot at music festivals where you will almost certainly not know everyone playing. What can you do? You can’t learn the words to every song in an artists catalog that quickly.

For me, the clear answer is Setlist.FM. I love this website. Setlist.fm is a crowdsourced platform for checking out artists’ setlists in advance. It’s the perfect tool for being prepared for any show. Curious about what Sir Paul McCartney played during his last show of 2017? What about Paul’s VIP soundcheck? Does Liam Gallagher play Wonderwall live? What songs do U2 play the most on their eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE tour?

I use this tool for almost every show I attend by building playlists on Spotify based on the tracks that get played at each show. Hopefully you start using this great platform as well!
